'''Deryck Jayson Whibley''' (born March 21, 1980), also known as '''Bizzy D''', is the lead vocalist and songwriter of Canadian pop punk Juno award winning band Sum 41. He also plays the guitar, and keyboard/piano. Whibley was born in Scarborough, Ontario. Whibley's main influences include Elvis Costello, The Beatles, and southern California punk bands. He started his career as a musician due to his favorite band when he was 14 years old, Nirvana.
Sum 41 & Professional career
In 1996 Deryck met with the future Sum 41 drummer Steve Jocz. The two of them became the first members of the band who had formed from rival bands, 41 days into summer. The band have topped charts in several countries.
He is Gunner in Sum 41's alter-ego band Pain for Pleasure. Deryck writes all of Sum 41's lyrics and most of their guitar riffs. Deryck has also co-produced some of the Sum 41 albums and for his longtime mentor and manager, Greig Nori's band, Treble Charger albums, in Treble Charger he has also done backing vocals for the album Detox.
Besides his musician career he started as occasional actor. He portrayed the character Tony on the movie Dirty Love.
Instruments
He now plays a modified Fender American Telecaster HH, Fender 72' Telecaster Deluxe (also modified) and a Fender Standard Telecaster. He also has been known previously to play Gibson SGs, and Gibson Les Pauls. He plays the drums when Stevo Jocz is singing in the Sum 41 Alter-Ego band Pain For Pleasure. In the song Pieces when performed live Whibley sometimes uses a piano or keyboard instead of a guitar.
He plans to release a Fender Signature Telecaster, sometime in the middle of next year. It will be available in black, white, and red and black, according to the official Q&A section.
Personal life
He was previously in a relationship with Hilton hotels heiress Paris Hilton for a short period. In June 2004 he began dating fellow Canadian singer, Avril Lavigne, and they became engaged in June 2005. Whibley proposed to Lavigne by surprising her with a trip to Venice, a gondola ride, and then a romantic picnic. The couple finally married in a traditional ceremony on July 15th, 2006 at a private estate in the California coastal city of Montecito, located 87 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Lavigne wore a Vera Wang gown, carried pearl white Australian roses and was walked down the aisle by her father. Whibley wore a Hugo Boss suit and was acompanied by four best men.
